Maybe you aren't. But maybe you should be.
All those gunowners you see walking around the gun shows aren't doing anything to preserve the tradition. and those guys down at the range may represent the active 1% of gunowners, but they are likely not doing anything either.
Ouch! That hurts, when you are counting on them to save your rights.
What should they be doing? Well, they should be working on their shooting skills, especially rapid fire precision shooting on 4 MOA targets (to simulate shooting out to 500 yrds). Those skills are going to count if push ever comes to shove. And they should be introducing a new person to the sport. We all know how fun it is, so why keep it a secret? Maybe that guy you take to the range gets elected as your attorney general in a few years. Bet he'd be knowledgeable about the 2nd and its importance - because you taught him about it while you were showing him how to shoot.
And, maybe most important, contacting those elected reps and educating them on the 2nd - that it's about the Constitution, and not duck hunting or skeet shooting. It's here where the battle will be won or lost.
When the Republicans feel they can field anti-gun candidates and win - when they feel free to shaft a core group of loyal Republications - you've got problems.
When gunowners are too lazy or too dumb to get on the stick for the easy jobs, you know they're not going to show up when the rubber really hits the road. A UN convoy coming? "I can't make it, Let me know how it turns out."
You just shake your head: "Sorry, sorry, people - not worthy of their heritage - and therefore soon to lose it." That aide to King George was right, just a couple of centuries too early. Americans really are fit only as beasts of burden (I take it he meant not overly smart), and gelding them in some instances, and a little persuasion in other.
Folks, when they take away your gun rights, when the tradition is gone - you are gelded, politically. Make no mistake about it.
During this past election, I heard from a gun shop owner in northern Michigan who wanted to know what to do. Most hunters who came into his shop said they were for Gore. A customer from NY called that he had signed up 158 gun-owning voters, but he wasn't sure they were for Bush; in fact, he was worried most were for Gore, because they were hunters, hunters who were reassured by Gore's late statements that he "wasn't after their guns". I assume gelding is done with a sharp blade. Can you hear it being sharpened for these dolts?
I was at a county board zoning hearing a couple of years ago, one of the biggest in the county's history, because they were proposing regulating backyard shooting ranges. At the start of the hearing, the big liberal commissioner made a statement to the substance that "no one is going to keep you from shooting on your property", and several guys got up and walked out, at least one muttered, "That's all I wanted to hear." They actually believed him. They actually believed the liberial.
My, my, my...if only King George were alive today. Just sweet talk the gulible fools, and lead them anywhere.
Maybe he is. Was your kid involved in the Halloween UNICEF collections? If so, your spot in the line to be gelded is a little closer to the front.
Yes sir, you need to go to the range and shoot that M1A, if only to make sure the smelter gets a well-used gun. Better yet, take it out of the cardboard box and throw it across the concrete floor of your basement. Why should the gun grabbers have all the fun? Let them get it after it's already been tossed around a bit. (They get more enjoyment out of tossing it across the concrete if it is brand new, right?)
Heck, if you can't learn to shoot it, what good is it anyway? Go ahead and separate the stock from the rest, and the cardboard and foam liner, so those boys who take it for destruction don't have to do it themselves. You obviously want to help them, don't you?
Yes sir, 50% of the gunowners voting for Al Gore, most gun owners can't shoot, nearly all gun owners let Washington do what it wants...I'd say if you were a little scared, you may be one of the smart ones.
And if you are reading this around other gun owners, take a hard look around you and know - know - that the probability is high that they aren't doing a thing now, and aren't going to do a thing in the future - and then grab a mirror - you might see another one.
Of course, the riflemen will be there. They may be scared. They may be reluctant. They may hate the thought. But they know, when the time comes, that it's up to them, it's in their lap, that the buck stops here, and they are the guys to stop it. And they will - I hope.
Say you are not one of the above? Say that gelding blade is not going to touch you? Well, have you done anything to learn to shoot? It's February already. Have you got off the couch and turned off the TV? Have you taken someone out shooting? Even bothered to call your congressmen? Better start answering "Yes" to some of those questions, or go ahead and order "dumb, lazy-assed clown" for your tombstone. And I guarantee tha blade is being sharpened, right now, even as you are reading this. That uncomfortable feeling you have is the sixth sence that tells you there's something bad in your future. You might as well face it. |
